Arizona Agriculture Connection Ep. 2-MCFB Ag Report

Welcome to the Arizona Agriculture Connection! I’m Nicole Clements, your host and guide as we explore the vibrant world of agriculture in Maricopa County. In this post, we'll dive into current topics, events, and resources that are shaping our community. From engaging events to critical agricultural challenges, Farm Bureau has a place for you!

Celebrating AgFest and Beyond

This January, we wrapped up AgFest, where local leaders and farmers presented the vital role agriculture plays in Maricopa County. The event was a prime opportunity for legislators to learn and engage with our agriculture community. In parallel, some of our board members just returned from the American Farm Bureau Federation's annual convention in San Antonio, where they collaborated with regions outside Arizona to address shared challenges.

Upcoming Events

Looking ahead, there are exciting events lined up. Our Women Leadership Committee’s PEAL (Promote, Educate, Advocate, and Learn) meetup is on February 13th. This monthly event explores diverse topics like urban agriculture and FSA programs. Join us this February to hear Krista Paffrath discuss agriculture in the media.

On February 22nd, the Young Farmers and Ranchers Committee hosts Strikeout Hunger at Surprise Stadium. By bringing three non-perishable food items, you can receive a free lawn ticket from Maricopa County Farm Bureau. All donations benefit Arizona food banks. Stay informed on these and other events by visiting our website, MaricopaCountyFB.org.

Legislative Session and Ongoing Priorities

January also marks the start of the new legislative session. Water issues continue to dominate discussions, building on work from last year. Maricopa County ranks in the top 1 percent of counties nationwide in agriculture sales, and ongoing support for our food supply and economy remains crucial. While water is pivotal, air quality, land classification, and other concerns persist in our community's dialogue.

Introducing the Agristress Helpline

A significant addition to Arizona's support network is the Agristress Helpline, a free and confidential resource. It serves our agriculture communities by offering multilingual interpretation and text services in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese. This initiative is a collaborative effort from several Arizona organizations, addressing the high stress and suicide rates within the farming and ranching sectors.
