Navigating the Arizona Agriculture Landscape: June Highlights and Opportunities

Welcome back, Arizona Aggies, to a new edition of the Arizona Agriculture Connection. As we approach mid-year, there are several critical updates and

opportunities for our agricultural community that warrant our attention. Here's a comprehensive look at what's happening this June.

State Legislation and Budget Discussions

The Arizona State Legislature is currently navigating the complexities of budget negotiations with a looming deadline. The budget, to be passed by June 30th, is crucial to avoid a government shutdown. Governor Hobbs has presented a proposed budget of $17.7 billion for fiscal year 2026. However, economic uncertainties and federal tariffs are complicating the discussions.

An integral component of these discussions is the University of Arizona Cooperative Extension Service. For over 110 years, Cooperative Extension has been pivotal in driving agricultural innovation, youth development, environmental stewardship, and economic prosperity in rural communities. We encourage your active participation in advocating for full funding to continue enhancing our communities. You can find a link to our call to action HERE.

Federal News: Call for Public Input

Turning to federal news, the U.S. Department of the Interior is seeking public input on existing regulations that may be outdated or unnecessary. This is an opportunity for stakeholders to suggest modifications, streamlining, or repeals where necessary. Comments are due by June 20th. For more detailed information visit HERE.

Policy Development Season

As it is policy development season for the Farm Bureau, this is your opportunity to present challenges faced by the agriculture sector. Grassroots efforts play a vital role in protecting and preserving agriculture, so make sure your voice is heard. Maricopa County Farm Bureau will host policy development sessions on June 18th in Scottsdale and June 25th in Goodyear. RSVP Here.

Grant Opportunities

Currently, applications are open for our Agricultural Literacy Grant. If you have an event or program that boosts agricultural literacy in your community or school, you may be eligible for funding. Visit HERE for more details. The deadline for submissions is June 30th.
