Welcome to the Arizona Agriculture Connection with Maricopa County Farm Bureau’s Ag Report! Exciting developments are underway as we welcome February, bidding farewell to what seemed like an endless January. Maricopa County Farm Bureau had a busy start to the year, participating in significant events such as Ag Fest and the American Farm Bureau Convention. Additionally, we had the honor of joining the Arizona FFA Foundation at their annual Blue and Gold Gala, supporting future leaders and programs in agriculture across the state.
Celebrating Generosity in Agriculture
This year’s Blue and Gold Gala raised an impressive $513,949 to support FFA initiatives in the upcoming year. The event highlighted the remarkable unity within our agricultural community, dedicated to shaping a promising future for Arizona's agriculture sector. A noteworthy moment from the gala was the honoring of Ron and Heather Rayner, esteemed recipients of the Blue and Gold Honoree Award. Their contributions to Arizona agriculture are truly unparalleled, and we take pride in celebrating their recognition.
Focus on Rural Water Policy
As we gear up for the new advocacy year, rural water policy remains a critical agenda item. Despite awaiting a response from the Governor on SB 1221 from the previous session, on January 30th, Governor Hobbs introduced her Rural Groundwater Management Act, featuring House Bill 2714 and Senate Bill 1425.
In parallel, agricultural stakeholders are diligently working on a package that ensures the combined success of Arizona's Water and Agriculture. The Agriculture Stakeholder Group's efforts have been substantial this session, aiming to devise sustainable solutions vital for Arizona's future.
Legislative Developments
With the 57th Arizona Legislature having commenced its first regular session in mid-January, Governor Hobbs delivered the State of the State Address. The session sees 1,230 bills introduced, and the Governor proposed an executive budget for 2026, amounting to $17.7 billion. Collaborative efforts between agriculture groups during this legislative period are essential and ongoing.
