Exploring Arizona's Agricultural Landscape: Key Updates and Upcoming Events
Welcome back, Arizona Aggies! As fall begins to settle in, bringing with it the refreshing chill of cooler weather, we're primed to embrace the new season's opportunities within Arizona's thriving agricultural community. Here's a roundup of key events and highlights that are shaping our field this month.
Fall Regional Stakeholder Meetings
One of the standout events this season is the Department of Agriculture's fall regional stakeholder meetings. These meetings are important platforms for fostering dialogue between the Department of Agriculture and Arizona's diverse agricultural community. The agenda includes updates on crucial initiatives and serves as a conduit for gathering valuable input from agriculturalists statewide. Mark your calendars for these dates and locations:
October 7th in Thatcher
October 24th in Yuma
October 30th in Flagstaff
Annual Ag Social by Maricopa County Farm Bureau Women's Leadership Committee
October also heralds the much-anticipated annual Ag Social hosted by the Maricopa County Farm Bureau Women's Leadership Committee. Scheduled for October 22nd, this inspirational event promises an engaging evening of networking, enriched by the creative flair of Miss Carrie Mayfield. Don't miss out on the magic of "sips and sunsets" — make sure to RSVP HERE at your earliest convenience!
National Agricultural News
On a national note, a significant development has occurred just beyond the border. A case of New World Screwworm has been identified in Hidalgo, only 70 miles from the US. This proximity marks the closest detection to the United States yet, prompting close monitoring. Consequently, imports of cattle and horses from Mexico have been temporarily paused as officials manage the situation. We are committed to keeping you updated as this situation evolves.
Economic Updates in Agriculture
On the financial front, the USDA projects a notable rise in net farm income, with an expected increase of $48.8 billion or 37.2% from 2024 to 2025, after adjusting for inflation. Additionally, net cash farm income is forecasted to grow by 25.3% over the same period — promising news for the agricultural economy.
Moreover, the National Grain and Feed Association's recently unveiled Harvest Economy report highlights the significant economic impact of the US grain and feed industry. Arizona agriculture contributes nearly $32 billion to our state's economy, with the grain and feed sector accounting for over $2 billion.

That's a wrap for this week's update on Arizona's agricultural landscape. Be sure to tune in next week as we delve into the complex issue of air quality with the Arizona Department of Agriculture. Until then, keep embracing the seasonal shifts and the vibrant agricultural possibilities they bring.
